This textile heart is inspired by the Mexican craft called "milagritos."
The collection of textile milagritos is very meaningful to me because it speaks to my roots, the tin milagritos, which are handcrafted in various parts of Mexico but are very common in the crafts of my native Oaxaca. They also emerged during a period in my life where I felt chaotic and uncertain around me, and I perceived a lot of violence in the world. Therefore, I want to remind myself that there is also a lot of love, and I want to share this feeling in these difficult times.
In Mexican culture, Milagritos are symbols of gratitude and hope, and I like to think that my milagritos are protective beings that watch over you and take care of you.
