Art_ Who is Irving Herrera?

"Sometimes it is thought that a true work of art should justify itself and that it does not need long prologues to defend and explain it. I know that nowadays anyone can paint or produce a brilliant print, but that does not mean that they become a great artist; and yet a great artist can come from anywhere.

My graphic works seek a challenge that combines a state of nature and wild irony: that of someone who, behind the lens, faces always look into an imaginary camera where the feminine becomes powerful, mysterious, and baroque.

The aim is to demonstrate that this series of prints not only seeks to glimpse the world, but also to delve into the interior of the subject, almost always triumphantly extracting a beautiful image that corresponds to a personal cosmology that has been shaped over time. What matters is not what happens from neck to toe, but the gestures, which are integral, sensual, defiant, and human.

My graph seeks to tell the judicious observer that the profession is built day by day with the experience that corresponds to the tortuous path of practice, of trial and error on which one ascends and where there is no end.”

 - Irving Herrera

A graduate in Fine and Visual Arts from the School of Fine Arts of Oaxaca, Irving Herrera is a renowned Oaxacan artist who has been selected to participate in national and international competitions.

Irving's goal in his graphic work is to discover and expose the intimate character of his subjects—their history, their experience, their personal cosmology. He focuses his attention on details, gestures, their sensuality, and their exalted humanity.

Each piece created by Irving encourages us to create countless stories and interpretations based on enigmatic portraits, a wide variety of features and characteristics, but in each piece we can definitely appreciate the strength of the characters .

"What is art? Perhaps the answer has nothing to do with logic or reason. Perhaps art has always been connected to humankind from the beginning; perhaps art is humankind itself until the end." - Irving Herrera.
